How To Care For Curly Hair Naturally

If you have naturally curly hair it can be a challenge to know how to care for it. It can go all over the place and humidity doesn't help. You have to know how to care for it.

Shampoo (or not..)

The first thing to do is to make sure you are using shampoos and conditioners that are meant for curly hair. There are certain ingredients that can make hair frizzy that you should not have in your products. Better yet, try going without a shampoo and just using conditioner.

Detangling Brush

You also will want to make sure you stay away from a regular brush when it comes to your hair. Use a comb to get the tangles out. That way you won't have to worry about needing a brush.

Towel Dry

You should also spend time plopping your hair with a towel. That way the curls will come out and your hair will look really nice. Find some good products to go along with that. Ones that do not make your hair more frizzy than it naturally is.

If you don't feel like having curls all the time, you don't have to but you will have to straighten your hair. This can take some time but it can be worth it. You can use a hair dryer or you can use a straightener. Figure out what would work best and what you have access to.

Conditioner

A conditioner is one of the best ways to control your hair because it will help you untangle it. It'll make your hair smell good as well. It's different from a shampoo in that it will not cause the same type of damage that regular shampooing does. According to Katie over at WellnessMama.com, the conditioner also acts as 'protective coating' when you brush your wet/damp curly hair.

Hair Washing Schedule

You should also think about how often you wash your hair. You have to find the right amount of time. Some people like to do it every day and others prefer doing so every other day. In some cases, once every three days will work.

If you are unsure about any of this you can experiment. Try going without shampoo for a few weeks and see what happens. You might be surprised at the results and will finally have found something that works.

It would be a good idea to talk with others who have curly hair. They can help you figure out what you are doing right and doing wrong. They might have other ideas for your to try.

Hair Cut

Keeping your hair trimmed is also a good idea. That way you can cut off the split ends and your hair has a better chance of staying healthy. You don't have to keep your hair short but getting a regular trim will do a lot for your curly hair.

In some cases, you can do things to your hair that makes it so people don't even realize that it is naturally curly. This takes a lot of work and money but some people think it is worth it. Think about if you would like to do this and then start looking at salons that can help you.

Yes, curly hair can be high maintenance.

Taking care of curly hair is a challenge. It is not the type of hair you can just wash and go. You have to do something with it each and every day. This can be more difficult if you are busy and don't have a lot of time.

If that is the case then it is best to come up with a good plan and stick to it every morning. Once you do that it will become like brushing your teeth and you won't even have to think about it. It will become just a part of your day, like brushing your teeth.

Once you find a good plan for your curly hair you will feel better about going out of the house with it. This can boost your self-confidence and allow you to live a happier life. You can always figure out new ways and styles of doing your hair and that can be a lot of fun as well. The important thing is finding the right way to handle your own hair and keep it looking nice.
