There are a variety of home remedies that can successfully help manage out of control frizzy hair for smooth, shiny and silky locks.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

Yes, it’s good for the hair too..

One of the main causes of frizzy hair is an imbalance in the pH balance. Apple cider vinegar contains acid that can help maintain this balance and calm that frizz. Do not rinse with water after using the apple cider vinegar and allow the hair to dry naturally.

Simple dilute equal parts of water and apple cider vinegar. Rinse your hair after washing and conditioning with this solution. It is recommended to do this every 2 to 4 weeks for optimal results.

Keep in mind that apple cider vinegar has a strong and slightly unpleasant odor. It is therefore advisable to only use the rinse on nights when you have no plans to leave the house.

Apple Cider vinegar is good for hair, and not just for the frizz. Momtastic has a lot of ACV recipes for hair.. as a clarifying wash, deep conditioning mask, treatment for dandruff, and many other uses. I recommend checking it out! 🙂

2. A Beer Treatment

Beer is packed full of nutrients that promote healthy hair and reduce frizz. Use beer in the same way you would a store bought hair treatment by applying it after the final rinse. It is necessary to rinse the beer off after a few minutes of allowing it to work.

Once again, beer may not be the ideal fragrance that you want for your hair so use the treatment on nights in. Although this odor could be attractive to some of the male species. It is recommended to use a beer treatment once every 2 weeks.

3. Cold Water Remedy

Ever walked outside on a hot and humid day and watched as your smooth hair frizzes up? This is because heat promotes the absorption of water into the hair cuticles which is the main cause of frizzy hair.

Opting to wash and rinse your hair in cold water will help reduce the size of pores in the hair shaft, minimizing the amount of water it absorbs. Cool and dry climates are less likely to result in frizzy hair than warm and humid weather.

4. Banana Moisture Mask

Bananas are ideal for delivering and sealing moisture into the hair shaft to smooth out frizz. Unlike water, moisture in the form of natural oils is the enemy of frizzy hair.

Mash up one banana, add about 1/4 cup of yogurt and mix it up to create the right consistency for a hair mask. You can also add a couple (by this we mean 2) tablespoons of olive oil and honey to further promote moisture delivery and retention in each hair shaft.

Apply the mask liberally to the hair and scalp and leave for about 30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. A banana mask can be a bit messy and it may be necessary to repeat the rinse process multiple times to get all of it out of the hair but at least your hair will be left with a delectable fragrance.

It is also recommended to cover the hair with a shower cap or cling wrap to prevent the mask from drying out on the hair. This could have negative effects rather than providing the necessary benefits to reduce frizz. Apply the mask twice a week to get the greatest benefits and moisturizing value from the mask.

5. Avocado And Olive Oil Mask

Both of these natural products are packed with nutrients and will moisturize the hair. Simply mash up an avocado, add a dash of olive oil and mix well. Apply to the hair after washing and allow it to work for at least 30 minutes. The oily combination should not dry out during this time but you can cover the hair as per the banana mask described above.

It is recommended to use a moisturizing conditioner after you have effectively rinsed the avocado and olive oil mask from the hair. This will help mask the smell of avo and olive oil which can be distasteful. You can apply the mask once every 1 to 2 weeks for optimal health and shine.

6. Nourishing Egg Treatment

Eggs are high in protein that is necessary to protect and promote hair health. Healthy, well-nourished hair is less likely to frizz out than dry and damaged hair.

Whisk up the egg and apply in sections from the roots to the tips. Keep in mind that you want the majority of the hair treatment on the roots so that hair can grow out healthy and strong. However, it is important not to neglect the ends which can also benefit from a protein rich treatment.

You can mix a few drops of almond or olive oil into the egg for a moisturizing treatment. Almond oil has a wonderful fragrance and will help seal nutrients and moisture into the hair. Alternatively, mix the eggs up with some beer for the ultimate nourishing hair treatment.

It is recommended to leave the treatment on the hair for about 40 minutes and to apply it once a week to minimize frizz and promote healthy, shiny and smooth hair.

7. Mayonnaise

Not into mixing and creating your own hair products to minimize the frizz? You can simply apply mayonnaise to provide nutrition as well as the required moisture to the hair. Mayonnaise is basically created by combining oil and egg which are both beneficial in obtaining and maintaining healthy hair.

However, it is best to make your own mayonnaise rather than opt for a store bought product which may contain salt, preservatives and other ingredients that may damage the hair. Simply place one egg yolk in a food processor or blender and beat at high speed. Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and combine well. Pour in 3/4 of a cup of olive oil a few drops at a time while the processor or blender is running until the required consistency is achieved.

The reality is that these natural home remedies can be more effective at treating frizzy hair and promoting overall hair health than store bought products that contain ingredients that could damage the hair or result in an unhealthy hair over time.
