Manic Panic is one of the most popular hair dye brands on the market today. It’s a great product for people who want to change their hair color without the long-term commitment.

However, many people are curious about how long does Manic Panic last?

It can be hard to say since everyone has different hair color and texture.

In this blog post, we will discuss some factors that affect how long your Manic Panic hair dye lasts as well as a few tips for making it last longer!

Types of Manic Panic Hair Dyes

Types of Manic Panic Hair Dyes

Before we discuss how long it lasts, it’s important to note which Manic Panic Hair color you plan on using. They have two types of hair dyes: semi-permanent and temporary.

Manic Panic Semi-Permanent hair color line includes (1) Classic High Voltage, (2) Amplified Semi-permanent, (3) Creamtone Perfect Pastel, and (4) Professional Gel Hair Color.

Their temporary hair dye products include (1) Amplified Hair Color Spray and (2) Dye Hard Color Styling Gel.

Temporary hair color only lasts until you wash your hair. You can use these to touch up your roots, refresh color, or dye your hair in vibrant colors for Halloween or a night out in town!

Semi-permanent, on the other hand, lasts more than a few washes. The longevity varies and depends on the hair color and texture, but we’d say it lasts anywhere from one to three months.

How long does Manic Panic take to come out?

It can take anywhere from six to eight weeks on pre-lightened hair. Unprocessed, virgin hair doesn’t hold the color that well, so if you have unbleached hair, the color won’t last as long.

This is purely a personal opinion – for some people, the product has lasted longer than three months while others have found that it had faded in less than a month.

And of course, this will depend on how much you wash your hair too!

Does Manic Panic wash out completely?

Does Manic Panic wash out completely

Yes, Manic Panic temporary hair dye washes out completely when you shampoo your hair. Just make sure to follow the instructions on the package!

For semi-permanent hair dyes, it can take longer to wash out completely.

While some people feel like Manic Panic lasts forever in their hair, others complain that the color comes off after a couple of washes.

How long Manic Panic lasts depends on several factors. We’ve listed them down below.

Factors that affect how long Manic Panic hair dye lasts in your hair

  1. Your base hair color
  2. The shade of Manic Panic hair dye you choose
  3. How much time you spend in the sun
  4. How well your hair takes color
  5. Hair growth rate and thickness
  6. How often you wash it
  7. How well you take care of your hair
  8. What kind of shampoo and conditioner you’re using

The more pigmented a hair color is, the longer it lasts.

While your base hair color is important, an even more important consideration is the color you choose to dye your hair. If you choose dark tones like red, purple, and green, it will last longer than lighter tones (like blue and pink). They can last six to eight weeks, whereas pastel shades will probably only last two to three weeks.

In this video below, you can see how Manic Panic Purple Haze washes out on bleached hair with grown out roots. Vlogger Lara shares how the purple color lasted until the 39th wash!

That’s a pretty long time in my opinion, especially if you don’t wash your hair that often.

Tips for Making your Manic Panic Last Longer:

  • Use a deep conditioner before you dye. This will help the color absorb more evenly and last longer. Deep conditioning is also great for dry hair, which can be common after dying it!
  • Stay away from hot water since this opens up hair cuticles which let pigment escape more quickly. Use only cold water to wash your hair.
  • Wash your hair less often (once a week at most!) to extend the life of your Manic Panic hair color.
  • Avoid using shampoo as much as possible, but if you must, use a sulfate-free shampoo that preserves color.
  • Do not use regular shampoo when using Manic panic since it will wash the color away too quickly!
  • Maintain your color by avoiding sun exposure, and always wear a hat when you’re out in the sun! Ultraviolet rays that can fade Manic Panic quickly.

Is Manic Panic bad for your hair?

Is Manic Panic bad for your hair

Manic Panic hair color is not bad for your hair. It does not contain harsh chemicals typically found in permanent hair dyes. It’s a pretty safe product to use, free from paraben, PPD, ammonia, and peroxide.

That said, you still need to do a strand test and a patch test to see if you’re allergic to anything in the dye. Their formulation contains herbal and protein complex, with no animal by-products, so it’s definitely a great choice for vegans.

How do you get rid of Manic Panic fast?

If you don’t like how your hair turned out, you’d probably want to get rid of the color as fast as possible.

But please be patient!

Don’t be tempted to use bleach to correct bad hair color. Instead, use a color remover meant for semi-permanent hair dye.

Wash hair with a clarifying shampoo. If you don’t have one, you can also use an anti-dandruff shampoo. Wash hair daily for a week or until the dye fades off.

Wrapping It Up

Manic Panic typically lasts for one to three months, depending on your base hair color, the shade chosen, how long you are in the sun, how well your hair takes color, hair growth rate, and thickness. Additionally, it also depends on how often you wash your hair.

Since Manic Panic hair color is a semi-permanent dye, it won’t last forever. It will fade with time and you’ll need to re-apply the dye after a few weeks or months.
