By: | Last Updated: July 4, 2022

You probably have seen Aussie hair products in supermarkets or at your local drug stores.

Well, who wouldn’t? Aussie is a known affordable haircare brand readily available in various stores, including online.

The brand has been in the hair industry since 1985 and has been producing shampoos, conditioners, gel, serums, and hair spray from then on.

But is Aussie shampoo good? Does it cater to every hair type and hair need?

Well, continue reading as we learn more about Aussie shampoos.

Is Aussie hair good?

Is Aussie hair good

Now you might be wondering, “Is Aussie shampoo good for your hair?”.

The answer to that is YES. Aussie produces a vast range of hair products catering to every hair type and need.

Most of their products are made with natural components such as jojoba oil, avocado, aloe vera, and macadamia nut oil, which are beneficial for the hair.

But as they say, there’s always something bad in every good.

So why isn’t Aussie good for your hair?

Well, most Aussie hair care products contain alcohol, which causes dryness. It also has surfactants that irritate the scalp and dries out the hair.

Some have parabens like propylparaben and methylparaben, which have been linked to breast cancer

Another harmful ingredient is non-water soluble silicone which may cause build-up on the hair, leading to dryness and damage.

So is Aussie shampoo safe?

Not entirely! These harmful ingredients may potentially damage the hair.

So a piece of advice — always examine the ingredients before trying out their products.

Is Aussie shampoo sulfate-free?

Unfortunately, not all Aussie shampoos are sulfate-free.

Some of their products, including Miracle Curls Shampoo, have sulfates — both sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium Laureth sulfate.

Sulfates help penetrate filth and greasy buildup on the tresses by producing foam on the hair surface.

However, sulfates deplete the hair’s natural oils, causing dryness and breakage. This is why curly-haired women should be on the lookout, as sulfates dry out curly hair faster than other hair types.

Also, sulfate may seep deeper into the scalp, so be careful!

Most Aussie shampoos aren’t recommended for curly hair as they have some stripping substances that might cause excessive dryness and damage the curls.

But the good news is that Aussie formulated their Miracle Moist Collection, which specifically caters to curly hair.

The Aussie Miracle Moist Collection uses Australian macadamia nut oil, nourishing hair and reducing frizz and split ends

They also have the Aussie Miracle Curls Shampoo infused with jojoba and coconut oil. It’s intended for all sorts of curls — tight, loose, classic, or kinky. It restores hydration and volume and keeps curls in shape.

It softens the hair, giving you that beautiful and shiny bounce!

Is Aussie shampoo good for colored hair?

Yes! The Aussie Color Mate Shampoos help maintain color vibrancy and intensity. It has Australian Quandong Peach, which protects color-treated hair from root to tip.

Not to mention, the product is silicone-free, so there’s no need to worry about heavy build-up!

Is Aussie shampoo good for hair growth?

The Aussie Repair Miracle Shampoo is best for hair growth. It helps repair damaged hair, making your tresses soft and healthy. It has jojoba oil, which hydrates and promotes hair growth.

Another product is the Aussie SOS 3 Minute Miracle Deep Treatment. Its Tasmanian pepper berry, caviar lime, and lemon myrtle ingredients help protect the hair from heat while promoting hair growth.

The Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Shine shampoo also encourages hair growth. It has Australian beach strawberry extract that deeply treats the hair, from root to tip.

Is Aussie shampoo good for oily hair?

Yep!

The Aussie Mega Shampoo is specifically designed for oily and greasy hair. It is infused with Australian Blue Mountain Eucalyptus extract from Australia.

This shampoo is suitable for daily use, leaving the hair smooth, lustrous, and full of bounce!

It contains avocado and Australian Jojoba Oil that strengthen and smoothen the tresses.

Is Aussie shampoo good for wavy hair?

It leaves the hair silky and manageable, making it a must-have for frizzy wavy hair.

The Aussie Miracle Curls shampoo also works for wavy hair. It treats and nourishes both curly and wavy tresses.

You can also try the Aussie Color Mate Shampoo on color-treated fine hair. As previously said, it includes Australian wild peach extract, which gently cleanses every strand while maintaining hair color, thereby ensuring vibrancy and vividness.

Is Aussie shampoo good for black hair?

Absolutely! Aussie is an excellent shampoo for black hair

It contains ingredients that meet the demands of black hair and has hydrating elements that keep black hair smooth and shiny.

Aside from this, it has chemicals that deal with frizz, a typical dilemma in black hair, and vitamins and minerals that benefit the hair follicles and scalp.

Aussie shampoo lawsuit

Although Aussie shampoo benefits the hair, the brand is currently facing a lawsuit due to benzene contamination and the presence of DMD hydantoin and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLES).

Here’s what’s happening.

Last 2021, a class-action lawsuit was filed against many hair brands, including Aussie.

They claim that certain Aussie products (dry shampoo and dry conditioner) are tainted with benzene, a recognized carcinogen by the U.S.

Based on the complaint, benzene exposure is associated with leukemia, reproductive system damage, congenital disabilities, and other cancers.

Another class-action lawsuit also claims that Aussie contains sodium lauryl sulfates (SLES) or DMDM hydantoin

DMDM hydantoin emits tiny quantities of formaldehyde which lengthen the shelf life of hair and cosmetic products. However, formaldehyde is hazardous.

It causes side effects such as scalp irritation and hair loss and may even result in DNA damage and cancer.

Sodium lauryl sulfate, which removes dirt and scalp build-up, is also associated with skin irritation. It removes natural oils from the hair, causing dryness and frizz.

The final verdict

Indeed, Aussie shampoo works well for people with different hair types — whether straight, curly, or wavy.

But not all ingredients in their products are beneficial for the hair, such as silicone, sulfate, alcohol, and paraben. And this is especially true for curly tresses.

That’s why it’s essential that you carefully read the ingredient list to know which Aussie hair products are ideal for you.

Aussie will deliver outstanding results if you use the right product for your hair needs.
