Heatless Hair Curling Ribbon Review

By: | Last Updated: July 22, 2021

If you’ve ever longed for curly hair but don’t want the heat damage that comes with it, then you’re in luck.

Lately, trends have been going back to basics with more and more heatless curling methods popping up.

A lot of these trends make use of items you can find lying around the house. Rags, socks, straws, pencils–you name it!

There’s definitely be at least one person who has tried to use these for curling hair.

One of those trends involved grabbing an old bathroom belt, pulling it out of the loops, and using it on your hair.

You would lay it flat across the top of your head then gradually wrap your hair in twists on either side before sleeping on it.

The result? Nice, relaxed curls in the morning. But now there’s more!

Heatless Hair took the technique of bathrobe curls and turned it into their very own Curling Ribbon.

This viral TikTok trend is taking the heatless curl game by storm but does it really work? Read our heatless hair curling ribbon review to find out!

Features at a glance:

PRODUCT NAME:Heatless Hair Curl Ribbon
SIZES AVAILABLE:34-36 inches long
MATERIAL:Silk
INCLUDES:– 2 silk charmeuse scrunchies
– 1 plastic hair clamp

Easy to use design

This tool couldn’t be simpler to use.

All you have to do is to take the heatless hair ribbon and place it on the crown of your head. Then, you can use the clamp it provides to keep the ribbon in place.

From there, you can work with just two big sections and gradually twist your hair around the ribbon.

Once you have twisted your hair into two sections around the ribbon on either side of your head, you can just tie it back and sleep on it.

While the technique still stays the same, the Heatless Hair curler levels up bathroom curls by having a soft, plush core inside the ribbon.

So instead of just wrapping your hair around a strip of cloth, your hair has a bit more to hold onto now.

This results in more uniform curls than you would if you just wrapped your hair around a bathrobe tie.

No damage to hair

Removing heat from this equation already does a lot to protect hair from unnecessary damage. But did you know that even the cloth you use can cause damage?

If you were to use a bathrobe tie for this technique, the results could vary greatly just from the material your robe is made of.

Yup–terrycloth, silk, satin, microfiber–all of them would have different effects on how your curls turn out.

Some cloth materials cause a lot more friction to your hair resulting in frizzy curls.

Other materials won’t give you a smooth release especially after sleeping on it overnight. This would result in breakage and damage to your hair.

The Heatless Hair Curler is made with a 100% silk which our hair loves!

If you’re looking for a way to minimize damage, the silk ribbon they use lets you release your curls with ease without any snagging.

Plus, because silk lessens friction on your hair, it results in smoother frizz-free curls too!

Compact and easy to store

No need to fiddle around with cords and multiple attachments with this tool.

All you have is the noodle-shaped ribbon, a few scrunchies and a clamp. The ribbon is bendy and soft so you should be able to toss it into your bag or drawer without a hitch.

It’s a more hassle-free choice for travel too. If you don’t want to have to lug around an electronic or worry about the voltage available at your destination, then this heatless option would be great for you.

Heatless Hair Curling Ribbon Dupe & Alternatives

Now, you must be thinking, for something that’s so simple with a whopping $42 price tag, there must be some alternatives that don’t cost as much!

This viral TikTok heatless hair curler has a few alternatives that do the trick just the same. Here’s a few of them:

Klara Flaire Silk Heatless Curling Rod Headband

The Klara Flaire Heatless curlers are up there with the Heatless Hair Ribbon when it comes to price point. It comes with a clamp and two silk scrunchies just like the Heatless Hair curler as well.

But the Klara Flaire curlers claim to have 100% certified mulberry silk.

So, if you want to give your hair more TLC and get guaranteed frizz-free, break-free curls, then this might be worth the investment for you.

Feeke Heatless Curling Rod Headband

For a much cheaper alternative, the Feeke Heatless Curling Rod comes at a fraction of the price.

It comes with all the accessories that go with the Heatless Hair Ribbon and the Klara Flaire too.

You’re not assured of any specific grade of silk used in this curling ribbon, but it still has a pretty silky, smooth surface.

So, if you’re on a budget, this is definitely a more reasonable alternative.

TikTok Heatless Curling Rod Headband by Cheveau Beauty Co

This curling headband by Cheaveau Beauty Co is by far the most inexpensive alternative.

It doesn’t come with the hair clamp like the rest but the scrunchies are still there. If you get this one, I don’t think you’ll really miss the clamp anyway!

If you’re on a budget and have a hair clamp already on hand, or if you think you can do a pretty good job balancing that curling rod headband on while you twist your hair around it, then, I’d say this one would be your best option.

Heatless hair curling ribbon tutorial

There are lots of different ways to use the heatless hair ribbon, but here’s one basic method to get you started:

  • Starting with damp hair, part your hair into two larger sections. A center part would make it easier for you to work.
  • Then, place the ribbon on the crown of your head, around an inch from your hairline. Make sure that either side of the curl ribbon falls in equal lengths on the sides of your head.
  • Use a clamp or some pins to securely anchor the curling ribbon onto the crown of your hair.
  • Working in sections, you can use one of the scrunchies to tie away the part you’re currently not working with.
  • On the free side, take a small piece of hair from the top and twist it around the curler.
  • When you find that the section is starting to run short, gather in more hair from that side and add it to the section you’re working with before continuing to twist.
  • Repeat this process until you fully wrap one side of hair around the Heatless Hair curler. Then tie it back to keep the twist in place.
  • Repeat this on the other side.
  • Using the other scrunchie, gather the ends of the curling ribbon and tie them together securely.

Then, all you have to do is wait 3-4 hours, or better yet, sleep on it overnight.

Once you wake up, you can slide the curling rod out with ease and style your hair to your liking!
