I’ve put together a list of some of the best aloe vera shampoos available.  These have natural ingredients and some get power ups from added nutrients like Vitamin E, Biotin, and essential oils. Let’s take look, and then, if you’re feeling a little mad scientist, keep reading to find out how to make your own aloe vera shampoo right at home!

Things to Consider

Before we get to the list of recommended products, I do want to give you a few things to think about when you’re ready to buy your aloe vera shampoo.

First, what is your goal? If you want to boost your hair growth, look for Biotin as one of the main ingredients.  Need stronger strands? Added oils like olive and castor will coat your hair and give them strength.  There is an aloe vera shampoo that has all the right ingredients to treat your specific hair needs.

Second, is all natural important? You’ve probably seen a lot of labels with words neither you or your grandma can pronounce.  If you want an all natural product, shy away from those lengthy, multi-syllable ingredients.

Third, what’s your price point? Most aloe vera shampoos are pretty well priced, but if you are just looking for something to give you clean, fresh hair, you may not need a formula with pricier ingredients and a really nice label.

Finally, how accessible do you want it to be? We’ve all been there-we use the best perfume for 3 years and they stop making it.  Get the perfect shade of red nail polish and it disappears from the shelves. Boutique brands and formulas are really awesome, but when they’re hard to find, life gets sad. Once you’ve found an aloe vera shampoo you love, you might have a hard time switching out of it. Check multiple sources for your product, so you’re never left panicking when even Amazon can’t track down your brand.

CHECK OUT: Homemade Aloe Vera Hair Mask Recipes To Try

Now that we’ve covered some really great aloe vera shampoo products, let’s get to the really fun stuff! Making your own aloe vera shampoo doesn’t take a lot of time or money, and you can experiment with different oils and additives to create a recipe you love!

Homemade aloe vera shampoo: How to make aloe vera shampoo at home

For this recipe inspired by ohsweetmercy.com, you’ll need just a handful of ingredients to create your first bottle of aloe vera shampoo!

You’ll Need:

  • Fresh aloe vera gel – how much will depend on how long and thick your hair is.  Pick larger leaves from your plant to yield more gel. This recipe uses ⅛ C of gel.
  • Rosemary Essential Oil (2 drops)
  • Argan Oil (2 drops)
  • Water (2 TBSP)

Add all your ingredients to a food processor or blender with a really great puree feature.  A food processor works best to create a nice smooth product with no lumps or clumps. Blend your ingredients until smooth.  Once you’re sure there’s no clumps, you’re done! It’s that easy!

Because you are using extremely fresh, natural ingredients, you do need to use your shampoo right away.  It can be stored in your fridge for up to 24 hours, but you’ll want to throw it out after that.

You’ll also find this “feels” quite a bit different than normal shampoo, and that’s OK! You aren’t adding chemical ingredients that create that luxurious lather we are all so used to, but you will get clean, super soft hair with no fake additives!

As mentioned above, you can play with different ingredients to create a shampoo that’s perfect for your hair.  Try different essential oils like peppermint to help soothe an irritated scalp, or tea tree to really clarify your hair and leave it smelling fresh! Research some of your personal favorites and have fun!

Also remember, you’ll be pulling leaves right off your aloe vera plant, and since homemade aloe vera shampoo doesn’t really have a shelf life-you may want to only make it once or twice a week.  Your plant needs time to grow new leaves, and you don’t want to be that “crazy aloe plant lady”!

Aloe Vera Shampoo Benefits

The aloe vera shampoo benefits are really awesome, and range from preventing hair fall, to boosting volume, to adding shine for days.  Consider the ingredients you most want and make sure to read product reviews from other customers like you. Don’t be afraid to try more than one product, and shop around for really great deals.

If all else fails, invite your gal pals over on the weekend and DIY your way to an awesome new shampoo that you love! (Make sure to write down your recipe in between Marg’s!)
