Beachwaver Pro Review: Is this automatic curling iron worth it?

By: | Last Updated: June 8, 2021

I used to think that getting those glam Hollywood curls and beachy waves took a lot of effort.

I’ve tried curling my hair at home using curling irons. It took a lot of time and effort to get curls that barely lasts a few hours.

When I discovered rotating curling irons, I was hooked!

And none other than the Beachwaver Pro curling iron captured my eye.

The Beachwaver Pro is a curling iron that does it all for you. No wonder it’s dubbed as “every lazy girl’s dream”.

This self-rotating curling iron that reaches a temperature of up to 450 °F (232 °C) so it’s great for thicker hair.

The “resume” of the Beachwaver Pro

Material

Beachwaver Pro Review - is this rotating curling iron worth ir

The Beachwaver Pro is made of Tourmaline Ceramic infused with Gold Powder, which is the latest advancement. The result is unique as it allows for the hair to lock in more moisture. Tourmaline counterbalances the positive ions seen in dull hair by producing more negative ions than the average ceramic, protecting the ends from daily heat application.

This gives the curls a shiny, smoother texture and makes them healthier in the long run. Tourmaline in combination with easy temperature adjustments, adds to the safety and duration of the curls.

Temperature

A wide range of temperatures allows for the achievement of many looks, on every hair type, ranging from a glamorous curl to a beach wave. Thicker hair requires higher temperatures than thinner, sensitive hair. The Pro can get up to 450°F (232°C) within 30 seconds from turn on, so it reaches the maximum temperature before you are done detangling your hair.

Auto rotating

Last, but definitely not least: Self-rotation on both directions. The highlight of the iron is that you clamp a strand of hair to the bottom of the rod, you press “GO” and it auto-revolves. After 5 seconds you release the hair and you are left with a luminous curl, needless of any hairspray, that will upgrade even the simplest look.

You can adjust the speed of the rotation as it has a button Hi/Lo (i.e., high and low) for adjustable speed. Especially in the case of longer hair, a faster rotation speed will save you so much time as the high-speed rotation will curl the whole length in no time.

You just have to set it to your desired spin direction depending on the side you are curling, and it will create a symmetrical set of curls on both sides.

Dual Voltage

The device is capable of properly working in all countries, in all different sockets. Countries have different voltage so some devices can’t be used in other countries than the one they were bought from. This is not the case with Pro, nor the Beachwaver S1.

Cord

Pro has a heavy-duty cord that is 9 feet (2.7 meters) long, with a 360-degree swivel cord. A long cord in combination with the ergonomic handle reduces the chances of tangling, thus making it safer as a device.

Barrel size: Should I get the 1.25 or the 1-inch barrel?

Beachwaver Pro comes in two sizes: 1.25- and 1-inch barrel diameter. The wider the diameter, the looser the curl.

If you mainly go for beach waves that look more natural, then the wider rod of 1.25” is the way to go. For a tighter curl would need the 1”-wide barrel.

Weaknesses

Despite all the benefits that come with the Beachwaver Pro, certain weaknesses create doubts on whether that amount of money was worth it. Some users who bought it said their device stopped working a few months after. Or worst, after a year, at the end of the warranty.

The Beachwaver Pro would be a great choice for long hair while its long and heavy barrel. But it’s uncomfortable to use for shorter hair unless someone else is doing the curling for you. It’s also quite pricey, to the point where the you start to doubt whether the investment is really worth it.

What We Like:

  • Dual rotation
  • Temperature range
  • Tourmaline Ceramic barrel

What We Didn’t Like:

  • Not ideal for shorter hair
  • Pricey

Which Beachwaver Should I Get?

While the Pro is really good, there are other Beachwaver models to choose from!

Beachwaver S1

This is the model from the same brand that has very similar features including an easier direction resetting.

With arrow indicators that you can press, the S1 got lots of positive reviews in comparison to Pro.

Plus, it is cheaper and gives the same results despite the lack of advanced material in the making of the rod.

The Beachwaver Co. S1 Curling Iron*

  • 1″ Barrel Diameter, 5.5″ Protective Ceramic Rod, Ceramic barrel distributes even heat from top to bottom
  • Dual Rotation: Arrow button control, Hi/Lo Adjustable Speed Switch
  • Heat Range 290º F – 410º F in 30 seconds, Digital Temperature Clock, 30 Min Automatic Shut-Off

Beachwaver S1 vs Pro

This video will walk you through the differences between Beachwaver S1 and Pro.

Beachwaver B1

The Beachwaver B1 is lighter, has three temperature ranges and reaches up to 410 °F.

Much cheaper than the S1, yet it gives beautiful results.

It has an ergonomic handle and a Ceramic rod and is only slightly less efficient than the Tourmaline used in Pro.

Beachwaver Pro Review: Alternatives

Here are some alternatives which would again give the same outcome with less input from you!

CHI ARC

Literally the same thing as Beachwaver Pro.

Only small differences in the length of the cord which is only by a few inches longer in CHI.

Also, a major advantage based on the users’ experience is that CHI has a much more convenient direction reset process than the Pro.

It is also cheaper than both the S1 and Pro and has a more attractive design, being gold with red.

CHI Arc 1-inch Automatic Rotating Curling Iron*
The CHI ARC allows you to straighten, curl, flip and style your hair quickly and easily.

  • MCH Heater for quick 30 sec. heat up
  • Digital temperature adjustment prevents unnecessary heat damage to the hair
  • Features a Ceramic automatic rotating barrel that promotes a more comfortable styling position while creating beautiful long lasting curls.

Dyson Airwrap VS Beachwaver

Given that the ultimate aim is those flowing curls, the Dyson Airwrap is a great alternative.

It’s a hairstyling tool that allows you to style your hair while drying it.

The caveat? It’s at least five times the price of the Beachwaver.

No products found.

But with the Dyson Airwrap, you are essentially getting around 6 more because you get different attachments.

You’ll get endless hairstyles, using only one device and altering between different attachments. The curling barrels, however, would not be so efficient in really long hair as they do not have enough rod space.

To achieve the air-based technology they end up having no grip, giving an imprecise result. It sounds appealing to have the ability to create a variety of styles in less time. But if you are all for the flowy curls, the result here is not guaranteed.

Is the Beachwaver Pro worth the money?

The Beachwaver Pro is one of the best products currently available in the market with very promising results. It does have small weaknesses that can be a deal-breaker.

But there are alternatives from the same or other brands that can give you the same, if not better results, at a lower price and with more user-friendly features.

The extra cost of the Beachwaver Pro is not justifiable, yet it is significant. Confusing direction resetting, heaviness, barrel length that is inconvenient for short hair and doubtful lifespan, all add to the reasons why this curing iron may not be worth it.

It would be wise to invest in another device, that has only small differences with the Pro and yet promises equally beautiful and healthy hair, with fewer concerns in the process.

The idea of a more advanced model by Beachwaver is more than desirable. But higher costs would only be worth it if the potential was equal to the price. In other words, the Beachwaver should make us an offer that we can’t refuse.
