A hand-held tool, a curling iron is something that you use for minor curling operations, like when you want cute spiral or you just want to flip the ends of your hair out or under. They are also great to use for minor touch-ups.

The good thing about a curling iron is that you can zero in on an area of your head and work your magic there.

Also, you can control the temperature of a curling iron, so using this tool will be less damaging to your hair over the long-term.

But if you want a full-on change of style, using a curling iron will take too much time. This leads us to the next tool:

Hot rollers are important because you can style your entire head in a fraction of the time it would take to use a curling iron.

These days time is very important, and with rollers you can set your hair while putting your making up, texting your best friend, responding to your emails or checking your schedule for the day.

Even if you have curly hair, you will still need hot rollers. They can  loosen and soften curls at the same time. They are also gentler on your hair, so for people with delicate and fine hair, they are the appliances to use.

But whether or not you use choose to a curling iron or hot rollers, there is no doubt that you need to know a thing or two about using other hair products when you are curling.

Take, for example, the case of shampoo. It’s better not to shampoo your hair before curling. Curls do not hold if hair is too clean, smooth or shiny. If you need to shampoo your hair, do so with a dry shampoo.

If you absolutely need to wash your hair with regular shampoo, just make sure to use gel, mousse or a curl-enhancing cream before curling your hair.

Which one to get?

So, now that you know what the differences are between a curling iron and hot rollers, it’s time for you to decide. If you are into styling your hair, we suggest that you get one of each and experiment.

Don’t worry because are not expensive at all. Even the most expensive hot rollers you see online only cost $30, so they won’t cost you an arm and leg 😉

On the other hand, curling irons are a little more expensive, with the most expensive model being sold for over $100. But the price is nothing to be upset about because you do get what you pay for, and for the price that you pay, what you get is a great hairstyle.

For us, hot rollers and curling irons are basically the same – they are tools. And when it comes to tools, it’s not what you got, it’s how you use it.

  1. Thanks for sharing this, but my hair is wavy and frizzy. Also out here in the U.S straight hair is the popular style. I use a flat iron to straighten my hair and get the frizz out. Have a great day!
